    ​Thanksgiving Day was first observed as an annual event on November 6, 1879, though Indigenous peoples have a history of celebrating the fall harvest that predates the arrival of European settlers. Since 1957, Thanksgiving is observed as an annual event on the second Monday of October. It is a statutory holiday in British Columbia.
