Overview
Each year, we look forward to welcoming young learners and their families to the North Vancouver School District (NVSD).
A parent or guardian can register their child for Kindergarten if, on or before December 31 of that school year, the student has reached the age of 5 years. For example, for the 2026-2027 school year, the student must be 5 years of age prior to December 31, 2026. In other words, the child would have been born in 2021.
Placement confirmation and information will be communicated through email or phone from the assigned school. Students registered during initial registration will receive notice of placement by the end of May. Students registered after initial registration will receive notice of placement at the end of August of the upcoming school year.
Visit the Kindergarten web page for more information and resources.
Programs
You can register your child in either an English or French Immersion full-day program. All NVSD schools offer the English full-day program. The following schools offer Kindergarten French Immersion:

- Sherwood Park Elementary
How to register
- Priority Placement Window closed: December 12, 2025

How to register for the 2026-2027 School Year
All new registrations have now moved online. Please see below for the links to the online registration portals.
Step 1 – Gather required documents
Visit the Required Documents web page for a comprehensive list required for all new student registrations. Additional documents are required based on the category of application; Canadian citizen or permanent resident, work permit holder, study permit holder, and refugees.
Please be prepared to upload the required documents into the online portals.
Step 2 – Find your catchment
Use the School Locator tool to find your catchment.
Catchments are determined by the area in which the students' parents or guardians reside. Students will attend the school in their catchment area unless there is no physical or program space available.
Note: this does not apply to North Vancouver Online Learning and international students.
Step 3 – New registrations: Use online registration portals
Grades K-12: Visit the NVSD Student Registration website.
Select your Program and School within the online application:
Selecting an English Program
Your selected school is your catchment school. Use the School Locator - A Baragar Systems Product to find your catchment school. You can include your second or third choice schools (that are within your Family of Schools) in the comment box.
Selecting an IB Program
IB schools are catchment schools. If your catchment school is Queen Mary, Capilano or Norgate, please select this as your school. You can include your second or third choice schools (that are within your Family of Schools) in the comment box.
Selecting a French Immersion Program
If you are choosing a French Immersion Program, please enter your first choice in the school field and if you have a second choice, include this information in the comments box. If your child is not admitted into a French Immersion Program, they will be assigned to their catchment school.
