​​Catchment Announced

​​As we end one school year, we have the opportunity to celebrate the creation of a new school community! A new school is a tremendous asset to any community. This new school, set to open in September 2026, will be the first new school in North Vancouver in 26 years. It will offer students, families and staff a safe, modern, and welcoming place to learn and grow.​

​​Catchment Review Undertaken April - June, 2025​

​​The North Vancouver School District (NVSD) is opening a new elementary school in the Cloverley neighbourhood. As part of the preparation and planning for the opening in September 2026, the NVSD has a statutory requirement per the School Act to establish a catchment area for the new school. A catchment area is the geographical area around a school to which students residing within have priority for enrolment. Additionally, a catchment area forms the foundation for the application of NVSD Policy 605: Admission of Students to School, which guides the placement of students and consideration of parental choice in placement requests. 

Who will be impacted

The creation of this new catchment area will potentially impact students currently enrolled at Ridgeway, Brooksbank, Queensbury, and Queen Mary elementary schools. The new catchment in the Cloverley neighbourhood is an opportunity to address space pressures in these communities, reduce the reliance on portable classrooms, and plan for future growth and development. The catchment for Lynnmour Elementary is not affected. 

The Catchment Review Process

Beginning in April 2025, the NVSD initiated a process of community consultation on the catchment adjustments necessitated by the establishment of a catchment for the new elementary school in the Cloverley neighbourhood. There are several considerations in determining a school catchment: school space, community development projects, enrolment trends, alongside accessibility and transportation issues and impacts related to traffic, transportation, and safe routes to school.

Our goal continues to be to listen and gather insights to understand needs, plan for growth, while balancing school district capacity to build welcoming and inclusive school communities.

Catchment Review Considerations Open House 

An Open House was held on May 14, 2025 to explore survey insights, understand the impact on catchment areas, and receive community feedback on the proposed new catchment for the new elementary school in the Cloverley neighbourhood.​This event took place in person at Ridgeway Elementary. The materials that were presented are available online​​ and additional feedback is being collected via the digital comment form through to May 31, 2025.  ​

Community Input Survey

Between April 3 - 24, 2025, the school district engaged current and future families in the Ridgeway, Brooksbank, Queensbury and Queen Mary catchments. Additionally, community members from across the NVSD with elementary aged children, and families who are looking to enrol their children at the NVSD in the next 5 years were welcomed to share their feedback.

This survey allowed the NVSD to listen to the needs of the impacted school communities to ensure these are reflected in the catchment planning for the new school in the Cloverley neighbourhood. Feedback was collected via an online survey, with options to complete a hard copy of the survey, contact the school district via email, phone or by traditional mail.
