Advancing accessibility at Carson Graham Secondary
Did you know that it is National AccessAbility Week? Taking place from May 31 to June 6, 2026, this week is a time to take action towards building more inclusive and equitable communities where everyone can fully participate and thrive. As part of this year's National Accessibility Week, Carson Graham Secondary is highlighting recent efforts to create more accessible, welcoming, and inclusive school spaces. Learn about the key accessibility considerations in the latest Learn, Share and Grow blog post.

Annual Battle of the Books brings readers together
On May 29, the 5th floor of the Education Services Centre was buzzing with excitement as elementary students gathered for the 4th annual Battle of the Books. This much anticipated event brought together students, families, and teacher-librarians from across the school district to celebrate a shared love of reading. Geo club: Digging into confidence and community
Cove Cliff Elementary's geo club began with a Grade 5 student's idea and has grown into a collaborative, hands-on learning space where students build confidence, leadership, and meaningful connections—with each other and the natural environment around them. Public Board Meeting – June 16
A Board of Education public Board meeting will take place on June 16 at 6:30 p.m. Please visit the public meetings section of the school district website for information on how to participate and to review the meeting agenda and board package, which is posted the Thursday afternoon preceding the public meeting.
Registrations

Summer Learning – Registration closes June 22
North Vancouver Summer Learning provides an opportunity for students to explore and extend their learning while fulfilling their educational requirements through a variety of programs in the month of July. The Summer Learning 2026 course offerings provide students opportunities to further their learning and/or earn credits toward graduation: 

Registration is open to students within and beyond the NVSD, and closes on June 22 at 12 p.m.

North Vancouver Online Learning – Registration open
North Vancouver Online Learning (NVOL) provides engaging, accessible and interactive learning experiences for students. Registration is open until Friday, June 5 at 3 p.m. Enrolled students should engage with their course(s) before summer break by completing the activation assignments before June 19. Students who are active in their course(s) will have one calendar year to complete it. Students can also choose to engage in their NVOL course(s) entirely online or in a blended model of online and in-person interactions at our NVOL Centre.

Visit the NVOL website to see full course offerings for Grades 8–12 in both English and French. The French Immersion online course offerings allow students the opportunity to meet the requirements of their Diplôme de fin d'études secondaires en Colombie-Britannique online through L' École Virtuelle de Vancouver nord.

Artists for Kids summer day camps – Spots are filling fast! 
Give your child(ren) an unforgettable week of artmaking and creativity! Artists for Kids is pleased to offer three weeks of summer day camps led by experienced art specialist teachers. Campers will experiment with drawing, painting, collage, printmaking and more while building confidence and expressing their creativity. With a mixture of indoor studio time and outdoor recreation, each day is designed to keep participants engaged, inspired, and having fun! Spots are limited and are filling up quickly. Family camp at Cheakamus Centre August 24-26, 2026 – Registration open
This August, families are invited to experience a one-of-a-kind overnight family camp at Cheakamus Centre. Spend three days exploring forests, paddling canoes, learning together, creating together, and sharing unforgettable experiences surrounded by mountains, rivers, and old-growth forest.

Designed for families of all ages and sizes, the experience combines outdoor adventure, Indigenous cultural learning, and relaxed camp-style fun in a welcoming community atmosphere. Whether your family loves active adventures, creative activities, quiet nature walks, or evenings around the campfire, there will be something for everyone. Further details about the programming and to register are available on Cheakamus Centre's website.

Academies  Late application period open
NVSD academies are designed to enhance the overall student experience by providing learning environments that concentrate on a focal skill set. The following academies will be offered during the 2026-27 school year: Artists for Kids Studio Art, Basketball, Dance, Digital Media, Digital Media Lite, Field Hockey, Hockey Skills, Rowing, Soccer and Volleyball. 

The first-round application period closed on February 28. Applications received after March 1 may be placed on a waitlist. Final academy offerings are subject to sufficient enrolment. Visit the Academies webpage to learn more.

Elementary Band and Strings — Late registration open
Elementary Band and Strings is open to students in Grades 5–7 for Band and Grades 4–7 for Strings. Our unique instrumental music program complements the Arts Education curriculum and provides school-based instrumental instruction in a supportive and fun learning environment. Late registration for the 2026-27 school year is open until Tuesday, September 29. Visit the Elementary Band and Strings webpage for information, including program fees.

Additional Information and Opportunities

NVSD Dual Credit and career pathway interest survey
Current Grade 10 and Grade 11 students and/or their parents/guardians are invited to share their feedback on opportunities such as Dual Credit programs and Sampler (elective) courses that help students explore careers, gain industry-related skills, and earn credits towards graduation.

North Vancouver Recreation and Culture head summer camp leader substitute positions – Apply by June 14
North Vancouver Recreation & Culture (NVRC) is hiring Head Summer Camp Leader - Playground Leader II Substitutes for various indoor and outdoor camps for summer 2026. The deadline to apply is June 14. Learn more and apply on the NVRC Portal.

City of North Vancouver – Help shape the new harbour swimming deck
The City of North Vancouver (CNV) is asking for community members' input on a new outdoor ocean swim space. Harbour Swimming Deck will be located off Waterfront Park and will provide free, public swimming access to Burrard Inlet. Community members are invited to share their thoughts and participate online until June 30 or in person at the following pop-up events: 

  • June 18 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. — Waterfront Park (200 Esplanade W);
  • June 19 from 4:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. — Cates Deck, The Shipyards (near Polygon Gallery); and,
  • June 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. — Waterfront Park (200 Esplanade W).

New Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre
You are invited! City of North Vancouver (CNV) Mayor and Council invite you to join us for opening celebrations at the brand-new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre on July 25.

Located at 130 East 23rd Street, bring your friends and family down to enjoy a day full of festivities including site tours, games, crafts, sports demonstrations and more. Learn about the broader area revitalization project, including Silver Harbour Seniors' Activity Centre and what to expect in the new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre on the CNV website.

North Vancouver District Public Library Programs
The North Vancouver District Public Library has some exciting programs in place for school-aged children and youth this summer. These include:

  • Kids Summer Book Bags (Grades 3 to 6) | Lynn Valley, Parkgate, and Capilano Library June 23 to July 2
    Celebrate summer break with our popular, personalized book bags! Your librarians are excited to share the hidden treasures of our novel and chapter book collection with kid readers in grades 3-6. Each bag will contain 3 personally chosen books, 1 snack, and 1 simple activity. Registration required. Learn more.
  • Tween Tuesday! | Tuesday, July 14 and August 18 @ Lynn Valley Library
    Drop in, have a snack, make a craft, and hang out with our friendly therapy dog, Elroy. While you're here, recommend a book to a friend and take an 'Advance Reader Copy' (ARC)* book to read over the summer—for ages 10 and up. No registration required. Learn more.
