Program Overview

Numeracy 8/9 is designed for students who meet the following criteria:

  • have taken Mathematics 8 or 9, but their competency is Emerging or Developing

  • require development of core skills and foundational knowledge

  • would benefit from additional teacher support and direct instruction in developing understanding, foundational skills, and knowledge

  • Students currently completing Grade 8 this year must register for Numeracy 8 and students currently completing Grade 9 this year must register for Numeracy 9 (if students register incorrectly the registration will not be accepted)

Numeracy 8/9 focuses on curricular and core competencies using foundational mathematics content. Numeracy 8/9 is NOT a review of Mathematics 8 or 9 and NOT a preview course for Grade 7 students.

The Numeracy 8/9 course is personalized, as it is tailored to students' individual needs, target students' gaps in learning, and provides extra support in developing reflective and actively engaged learners. Numeracy students are assessed on the first day of class, then grouped by skill level.

Daily attendance is mandatory.

Families are encouraged to register early, as space is limited and fills up quickly.
