Kindergarten Information Session – October 11
Parents/guardians of children who will enter Kindergarten in September 2024 (children born in 2019) are invited to learn more about the school district,
Kindergarten and the registration process. The information session will take place on Wednesday, October 11, starting at 7 p.m., at Argyle Secondary School (1131 Frederick Road). While you do not need to RSVP to attend, by
RSVP’ing, you will receive a reminder leading up to the session.

The Art of Conversation – Exhibition open
The Gordon Smith Gallery and Artists for Kids invite you to experience
The Art of Conversation. The exhibition features artwork by over 20 Canadian artists who explore the role of art as a platform for communication.
The Art of Conversation draws conventional threads between the works in the gallery and highlights arts’ potential to facilitate and provoke dialogue. The perspectives and artistic conversations of elementary and secondary school students will be featured through original writing and art. Visit

Explore & Create Saturday Art Program at the Gordon Smith Gallery – Open
Families with children ages 5-12 are invited to visit the Gordon Smith Gallery for Explore & Create, a by-donation, drop-in art program inspired by works in the current exhibition,
The Art of Conversation.
Explore & Create takes place on Saturdays from 1-3 p.m. There will not be an Explore & Create activity on November 18, 25, and December 29.

2024/25 Kindergarten – Registration begins October 12
Registration for priority placement for 2024/25 Kindergarten (children born in 2019) beings on Thursday, October 12, and continues until Friday, December 15. Information regarding the registration process is available on the

Advanced Placement Exams – Register by November 1
Handsworth and Sutherland (NEW) are offering a range of AP exams for self-study students in May 2024. The deadline to register and remit payment is Wednesday, November 1. Visit the

Academies – Registration ongoing
Applications continue to be accepted for many NVSD Academies. There are limited spaces remaining for Field Hockey, the Business and Gaming Entrepreneurship Lab, and others. Information about our Academy program offerings is available on our

AFK After School Art – Registration open
Taught by art specialist teachers and assisted by secondary art students, Artists for Kids’ After School Art classes provide students the opportunity to further their artistic ability and foster positive attitudes towards the visual arts. Visit

(NEW) AFK After School Choir – Registration open
Singing from a rich repertoire of music from different cultures and languages, students in Grades 5 to 7 will foster strong musicianship, while building confidence and empathy. The program runs for 8 Wednesdays (starting October 18) and is led by Frank Lee, choir teacher at Carson Graham Secondary. For more information and to register, visit

North Vancouver Online Learning – Online registration open
NVOL provides engaging, accessible and interactive learning experiences for students. Students can enrol any time during the school year and have one calendar year to complete their course. Students can also choose to engage in their NVOL courses entirely remotely online or in a blended model of online and in-person interactions at our NVOL Centre.

Career Pathways 44 – A new resource for students
The NVSD is pleased to share a brand new website, Career Pathways 44, designed to support students as they explore the future of work and career opportunities. Students will learn about programs, events and initiatives that provide information and insights to various careers and career paths. Students will also learn how they can gain practical experience while still in school through programs such as WEX (Work Experience) or Youth Train in Trades. Visit

Sensory Friendly Sundays – Starting October 8
MONOVA’s Sensory Friendly Sundays offer neurodivergent individuals, their families and caregivers the ability to enjoy a calm, relaxed and safe museum experience. Sensory Friendly Sundays take place on the second Sunday of every month, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., starting on October 8. Visit

Climate & Environment and Community Wellbeing Strategies – Surveys open until October 13
The City of North Vancouver is seeking public input on two draft strategies: the Climate and Environment Strategy and Community Wellbeing Strategy. Share your thoughts on how to address climate change in the City and how to make the community more liveable and resilient. Health Care Career Open House – October 20
In partnership with local post-secondary schools, Vancouver Coastal Health invites students in Grades 10 – 12 to learn about careers and programs in health care. The open house will take place on Friday, October 20, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Paetzold Health Education Centre (VGH).

Aspiring Musicians Performance Series – Starts November 8
North Vancouver Recreation & Culture (NVRC) is hosting AMPS Tuesdays, a six-part concert series at Centennial Theatre. Spanning multiple music genres, the series is designed to build a sense of community among North Vancouver musicians by providing a stage for local talent to perform.
