After School Art

Artists for Kids offers After School Art classes for students each Fall, Winter and Spring term. Led by BC certified art specialist teachers and assisted by secondary art students, our classes provide the opportunity to build skills and foster creative growth within the visual arts. Students will have the opportunity to expand their artistic abilities in a multitude of different mediums, including painting, felting, printmaking, and sculpting. Classes vary in duration, price, and medium. All art materials are included in the price of the program. See below for info and to register!

Eco Explorers	Join us for an exciting exploration of a variety of art mediums that will include drawing materials, paint, and collage. Students will create a variety of 2D and 3D works inspired by the natural environment. Watercolours	Welcome to the vibrant world of watercolours! In this class, young artists will embark on an exciting journey of creativity and self-expression through the medium of watercolours. Inspired by the beauty of nature, students will have the opportunity to paint landscapes and still life scenes. They'll develop observational skills, brush techniques, colour mixing and blending and learn how to translate what they see onto paper with the magic of watercolours. Collage Art	Students will discover the exciting world of collage art, where they can mix and match images, textures, and materials to create unique and expressive works of art. In this class, you will explore how to layer different materials like magazines, fabric, paper, and found objects to build dynamic, eye-catching collages that reflect your creativity and personal style. Art Adventure	Students will have the opportunity to experience printmaking, sculpture, drawing, and painting through six individual projects. The ABCs of Art	Students will explore artists and art movements through the alphabet. Painting with Wool: the Art of Felting	Students will be introduced to the magic of creating with wool in this dynamic class. Students explore techniques in needle and wet felting. They will learn to create both 2D and 3D shapes and designs. Introduction to Pencil Drawing	Students will be led through the essential techniques of realistic pencil drawing. We will cover shading methods, proportion, composition, and tonal range. Students will be led through fun and exploratory drawing exercises, build their art skills, and construct their creative confidence. Clay Creations	Students will be introduced to the world of ceramics through exploration and experimentation. They will learn several hand building and surface decoration techniques and will have the opportunity to create their own unique pieces. This class will cover pinch, coil, and slab methods as well as underglaze, sgraffito, and glaze. Woodworking	Students will be introduced to the magic and value of woodworking in this hands-on, dynamic workshop. Over the eight weeks, your child will be taught safe habits while building cool projects and having fun. Teen Painting Studio	Explore a variety of drawing and painting styles, techniques, and methods in this studio course. Emphasis will be placed on how drawing and painting can inform each other, across a variety of mediums (graphite, charcoal, pastel, watercolour, acrylic) and subject matter (still life, abstraction, portraiture, life drawing). Students will experiment with how line, value and colour can be utilized to create form. Cancellation policy:

if student withdraws more than two business days prior to start of first class - refund full amount
if student withdraws within two business days of the start of the class or after attending first class only - refund full amount minus $30.00 processing fee
if student withdraws after the second class - no refunds

Please note: Artists for Kids is unable to provide 1:1 support. If you child requires support at school, or will be attending classes with a support worker, please contact afkinfo@sd44.ca as soon as possible after registering.

A limited number of bursaries of up to 50% of program fees are available for those in need of financial support. In an effort to support as many families as possible, there is a limit of one bursary per child, per term for After School Art classes. Please contact Artists for Kids for more information on bursaries.
