After School Art

Artists for Kids offers After School Art classes for students each Fall, Winter and Spring term. Led by BC certified art specialist teachers and assisted by secondary art students, our classes provide the opportunity to build skills and foster creative growth within the visual arts. Students will have the opportunity to expand their artistic abilities in a multitude of different mediums, including painting, felting, printmaking, and sculpting. Classes vary in duration, price, and medium. All art materials are included in the price of the program. See below for info and to register!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Artists for Kids does not provide supervision before class start times. Parents/Guardians are responsible for the supervision of their child from the end of the school day until the start of the After School Art class.

Class start times do not change on professional development days or early dismissal days.

Print It Out! – After-School Art Club	Calling all young artists in Grades 4–7! Join us for 8 exciting weeks of hands-on creativity as we explore the world of printmaking and image transfer techniques. From custom stamps and monoprints to image transfer, students will experiment with a variety of fun and accessible methods to create bold, beautiful artwork. Pop Goes the World!	In this course, students will dive into the world of Pop Art and explore its major icons, themes, and techniques. Inspired by artists like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, students will create eye-catching pieces that reflect the movement’s focus on popular culture and mass media. A variety of mixed media will be used to bring the spirit of Pop Art to life. Painting with Wool: The Art of Felting	Students will be introduced to the magic of creating with wool in this dynamic class. Students explore techniques in needle and wet felting. They will learn to create both 3D and 2D shapes and designs. Painting Pandemonium	In this fun and engaging painting class, students will explore a variety of painting themes and techniques, using both acrylic and watercolor paints. Each week, our artists will create exciting and unique projects, often inspired by different science themes. Squish, Press, Sculpt: Clay Adventures!	Students will be introduced to the world of ceramics through exploration and experimentation. They will learn several hand building and surface decoration techniques and will have the opportunity to create their own unique pieces. This class will cover the pinch, coil, and slab methods as well as underglaze, sgraffito, and glaze. Brushstrokes & Beyond: Art through the Ages	Students will explore artists and art movements through fun and playful mixed media projects. Each week, we use prominent works of art to inspire our own creations, using drawing, painting, and a variety of exciting mediums. The Medium is the Text Message	Play with paint, stencils, and different surfaces to create text-based art inspired by Ken Lum, Ron Terada, Dana Claxton, and more. Projects may include print-making, found poetry enlargements, zines, lettering/font creation, collage, public sign-style works. if student withdraws more than two business days prior to start of first class - refund full amount
if student withdraws within two business days of the start of the class or after the first class only - refund full amount minus $30.00 processing fee

Please note: Artists for Kids is unable to provide 1:1 support. If you child requires support at school, or will be attending classes with a support worker, please contact afkinfo@sd44.ca as soon as possible after registering.

A limited number of bursaries of up to 50% of program fees are available for those in need of financial support. In an effort to support as many families as possible, there is a limit of one bursary per child, per term for After School Art classes. Please contact Artists for Kids for more information on bursaries.

Bookmaking	Students will create several handmade books using a variety of materials such as papers, string and natural items. Some of the books created will be Concertina books, sketchbooks, and origami folding books. Teen Painting Studio Cancelled	Explore a variety of drawing and painting styles, techniques, and methods in this studio course. Emphasis will be placed on how drawing and painting can inform each other, across a variety of mediums (graphite, charcoal, pastel, watercolour, acrylic) and subject matter (still life, abstraction, portraiture, life drawing). Students will experiment with how line, value and colour can be utilized to create form.
