Artists for Kids
Ways to give
Artists for Kids is a unique, not-for-profit, self-sustaining art education program operated by the North Vancouver School District (NVSD) in British Columbia. In addition to receiving support through the NVSD, we rely on the generosity of our donors to offer a range of Artist and Educator led in-school and community programs, as well as scholarships for post-secondary Arts Education.

Your donations help make quality art education accessible to all and ensure that we can continue creating life changing opportunities to children and youth.

The Gordon and Marion Smith Foundation for Young Artists

Supporting Artists for Kids’ future on an annual basis.

The Gordon and Marion Smith Foundation for Young Artists was founded in 2002 to establish an endowment fund, the interest from which would fund ongoing visual arts enrichment opportunities for the children of British Columbia by providing a steady base of operating support Artists for Kids, in perpetuity.

The endowment is held and managed by the Vancouver Foundation. The Foundation’s role has evolved to include the presentation of a diverse and accessible range of visual arts programming and the curation of high profile exhibitions at the  Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art. The Foundation is named after two champions of the arts and art education in Canada –  Gordon A. Smith and his late wife, Marion.

The Gordon and Marion Smith Foundation for Young Artists is a registered charity. Donations to the Smith Foundation are eligible for a tax receipt. Artists for Kids staff and the Board of Directors of the Foundation are committed to ensuring that the intent and value of donor contributions are preserved in perpetuity. The Foundation’s Directors serve on a volunteer basis.

Artists for Kids was founded by educators in 1989, with the singular intend to support Arts Education. Fast forward over three decades, it is extraordinary what can be possible when together we have a collective vision and we don't give up!

Today, limited edition print runs are developed after AFK's acquisition committee purchases a major work by a selected artist. That work then goes into a teaching collection at The Gordon Smith Gallery of Art and the artist in turn donates their time and talent to create an original print, photograph or sculpture. The collection of AFK prints has steadily grown into a significant art portfolio offering collectors a unique opportunity to support cultural growth in Vancouver's communities.

Bill Reid created the first print over 30 years ago and, with some of Canada's most renowned artists following his example, the collection has steadily grown into a significant art portfolio offering collectors a unique opportunity to support cultural growth in Vancouver's communities.

Please consider acquiring a print for your home, a family member or friend, or your work space (including a purchase on behalf of your school!). These works are timeless, held and passed through generations. Acquiring work is also an investment in the arts, supporting artists and arts programming, and building community and understanding through the visual arts.
