​Transfer requests are for students who are currently registered at an NVSD school and wish to attend a different NVSD school. This includes:

• Grade 7 students who would like to attend a secondary school other than their designated receiving school.
• Students wishing to change their current program from French Immersion to English
• Current English Kindergarten students wishing to attend the Grade 1 French Immersion Program (lottery for applicants used to determine entry)

​Registration for the current school year continues to be available. Students will be placed based on available space, facilities, resources, or the appropriate educational program required to meet the student’s needs and your place of residence. Registration for the following school year begins in January.

​The effective date of registration is entered when all required documentation has been received. A registration without all the required documents will be pending until all the required documents are submitted.

Placement confirmation and information will be communicated through email or phone from the assigned school. Students registered during initial registration will receive notice of placement by the end of May. Students registered after initial registration will receive notice of placement at the end of August of the upcoming school year.

Placement categories for students in the full-day English program:

• Category 1 – In catchment area with sibling already attending same school
• Category 2 – In catchment area
• Category 3 – Out of catchment area with sibling already attending same school/program
• Category 4 – Out of catchment
• Category 5 – Out of district​

​Children who turn five years old before December 31, 2026 (born in 2021) are eligible to begin school in September 2026.

Registrations received following the initial registration period deadline will be placed according to the available space, facilities, resources, or the appropriate educational program required to meet the student's needs and your place of residence.

​French Immersion is a French-language learning program available to all students in the NVSD. It is designed for non-French-speaking students who wish to attain a high level of proficiency in both official languages. The NVSD offers an Early French Immersion program as well as a Late French Immersion program (Grade 6 entry).

​The NVSD embraces a Family of Schools (FoS) model. Each "family" is comprised of a secondary school with its surrounding elementary schools. The purpose of this model is to build and maintain a positive community within secondary school neighbourhoods, enhance staff collaboration, and optimize student support.

​Students currently attending schools in the NVSD are not required to apply annually to continue their registration in their current school, or to transition to secondary school based on the Family of Schools model.​​​​
