Kindergarten

Each year, we look forward to welcoming our littlest learners and their families to the North Vancouver School District.

As you help your child prepare to begin a new journey with us -- an adventure that includes learning, sharing and growing among a caring community of students, staff, families and community partners -- know that we are here to support you too … because kindergarten is a big step for everyone!

We encourage you to use the resources below, many of which we have curated especially for young families, to help you and your child successfully transition to kindergarten.

We look forward to meeting you all very soon.

Kindergarten Orientation Presentation Video

This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are unable to hold our Kindergarten Information Evening at Centennial Theatre. Instead, we have created a virtual presentation for parents/guardians of children born in 2016 who enter kindergarten next September 2021.

Our presentation includes information on kindergarten curriculum, registration, and tips to help your child get ready for the exciting learning journey ahead. We also take a sneak peek into a kindergarten class and speak with one of our wonderful kindergarten teachers, Claire Spofforth.

After you have watched the presentation, should you have any questions, please reach out to Chanin Smyth, District Principal, Early Learning at csmyth@sd44.ca.

Supporting the Transition to Kindergarten

Some of the resources you will find in the Supporting the Transition to Kindergarten section include:

Help prepare your child for kindergarten by working through this booklet. You can use the booklet to record things that your child is good at and things that are important to them. Use it as a keepsake to remember your child before they go to kindergarten or share it with your child’s teachers.

Extended engagement in play is one of the best ways to prepare your child for school. Learn more about the different kinds of play that are important.

Support your child’s engagement through these play-based learning activities.
