Early Development Instrument (EDI)

In February 2021, Kindergarten teachers at your child’s elementary school will be completing the Early Development Instrument (EDI) on each of their students. The EDI is a questionnaire that includes questions on children’s social and emotional development, health and well-being, language and cognitive development, and communication skills.

The EDI was developed by child development experts and researchers in Canada and with the help of Kindergarten teachers and school administrators, and it has been used in 12 of 13 Canadian provinces and territories. In British Columbia, the Ministries of Children and Family Development, Education, and Health have funded the collection and use of the EDI for over 19 years.

More information about the Early Development Instrument can be found in this Parent/Guardian newsletter.

All North Vancouver School District families with children in Kindergarten will receive an EDI Informed Passive Consent Letter by the end of first week of December 2020.

If you have questions or require more information about your child's participation in the Early Development Instrument, please contact Anne Lawson, District Principal, Early Learning, at alawson@sd44.ca.
