Families will determine what is most meaningful to and manageable for them. We are here to support parents/guardians and students we all move into this new world of remote learning.

During this period of remote learning, our teaching staff will be available, responsive and supportive of students and families. They do not expect learning at home to look anything like a typical school day.

Teachers are not going to provide a specific schedule that matches a typical school day, nor will they mandate a set number of hours of learning time each day. For each family, the ability to focus upon formal, or even informal, learning will differ.

Yes! A web page, designed to support families with elementary-aged children, provides resources, helpful links, and new messages from the school district.

Throughout April, and for the first few weeks of remote learning, families can access resources and learning opportunities centred specifically on the Personal and Social competency from the BC Curriculum. Specific student assignments or suggestions for learning activities will come directly from classroom teachers, but this web page will provide additional information.

We know this new way of schooling is one among many major adjustments occurring in the lives of families and children. Children, like all of us, need to know that it is going to be OK.

Learning can be achieved by playing board games, journalling about this unprecedented time, watching educational programming, doing household chores, reading together, or baking.

Families should not worry about children falling behind or regressing. Once students return to a regular classroom, whenever that happens, teachers will meet them where they are and support them with the full understanding that their learning was interrupted.

We do not want to increase stress on families. These suggestions and opportunities are for your consideration, to be used when and where families find them helpful.

It will take the whole learning community – teachers, school support staff, and parents/guardians – to provide children with the continued opportunity to learn. The first and foremost priority, however, is our children's health and well-being.
