A trio of Grade 10 Argyle Secondary students recently helped the school reach a new fundraising milestone of $45,000 for local charities through the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative.

Students Adreanna Cundiff, Sarah Johnstone and Sophia Frers received a $5,000 grant for the local charity of their choice, which in this case was the North Shore Women’s Centre, after researching and presenting on the charity in front of a panel.

The Youth and Philanthropy Initiative is a global program which provides youth with the opportunity to become involved in learning about and supporting charities in their own communities.

One group is selected from each Grade 10 careers class to go to the finals, which this year was judged by Argyle principal Kim Jonat, District of North Vancouver Mayor Mike Little, school board trustee Christie Sacre, and assistant superintendent Pius Ryan.

This is the ninth year that Argyle has participated in the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative.
