Graduating students create and gift coffee table to Argyle Secondary

By Katie Black, Teacher Librarian, Argyle Secondary School

In 2018, a fir tree fell on grade 12 student Oscar D.'s family property. Oscar guesstimates the tree was approximately 280 years old when it fell on the property. It fell as a result of a forest fire.

Oscar and his older brother Theo, an Argyle alumnus, decided to take a cut from the fallen tree and with the help of fellow grade 12 students Travis R., Adam C. and Colton S., created a coffee table. They donated the stunning piece to the new Argyle library.

I am overjoyed with the table. It is the centerpiece of the library and is something that will be enjoyed by students and staff for years and years to come.

I taught Oscar in grade 9 English, and it is lovely he has left this legacy gift for the library. As Principal Kim Jonat said, “It's a beauty!"
