To ensure continuity of learning while in-class instruction
is suspended, schools and school districts across the province have had to take
a system, which for approximately 200 years afforded students an opportunity to
learn in the classroom, and move it online.
This shift to remote learning, while successful on many
fronts, does mean that some of our school district families have struggled to
find the technology means that would support their child in this new online
Evergreen Computers is an award-winning computer product and
repair business that has been in service since 1995. It prides itself on being
a local, community-minded company. Its staff live and work on the North Shore,
and they regularly give back by donating computer services and hardware to
school fundraisers and local non-profit groups, and supporting other community initiatives
and school programs
Evergreen Computers recently announced it would be donating
refurbished computers to the North Vancouver School District. Anyone wanting to
donate computers they were no longer using could deliver them to Evergreen. If
possible, these donated computers would be refurbished and given to the
District, who in turn, and through our Information & Communication
Technology Department, would supply them to local families in need of
technology so their children could participate in learning from home.
Local families have responded to the call for donations and
the initiative has been a great success. The school district is proud to support
this community-led initiative, and ensure youth and families in our community
have the technology means they need to continue to learn, share, and grow.
As Mark Pearmain, Superintendent of the North Vancouver
School District, has repeatedly shared with parents, guardians and staff, “Our
school system is part of a much bigger solution during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to providing continuity of educational opportunities for our
students, we are also striving to provide for our school community ‘a
continuity of care.' "
