How can we improve our community?

This question provided the foundation for the Urban Planning project addressed by students from Sutherland Secondary's Global Perspectives Program. Students began by identifying a particular challenge or need they saw in the community. With the support and partnership of the City of North Vancouver students then researched case studies from around the world, interviewed city staff, polled community stakeholders and developed evidenced solutions.

The project culminated with Global Perspectives students presenting their findings to city staff in council chambers. The students provided recommendations on a variety of projects including rapid transportation, the redesign of public spaces, the development of a local city currency, the promotion of green roof spaces and the creation of a North Vancouver City Youth Council. Final copies of each of the reports were submitted to the city who will be selecting projects to implement.
