| By Katie Black, Teacher Librarian Things are looking a little different in the Argyle Library Learning Commons this year! With the help of Ashley Kelly, Teacher Leader at Dorothy Lynas, Noelle Penner, Argyle Library Assistant, and Merav Schiffer, Argyle Teacher, we were able to completely reorganize the Argyle non-fiction collection into genres. This massive undertaking to weed and then generify the collection was done to make it more accessible for all Argyle learners. Using colour, all students need to do is look for a spine colour and then the clearly labelled sub-categories. Books have also been organized in an open face style similar to a bookstore. By organizing books this way we have already noticed a massive uptake in books being signed out! Signage was made and designed through a collaboration with Keeley Goble, a Digital Media Academy student. Thank you to the admin team at Argyle and Dorothy Lynas for helping us take this on! What’s next for the library? A collaboration with Windsor Secondary Library to organize the Indigenous Collections using the Brian Deer Classification System (specific for Indigenous collections)!
