Cove Cliff Crossfit

By Bridget O'Brien-Kopacek, Principal

In April 2023, Cove Cliff embarked on a new journey to embrace the adage "healthy body, healthy mind" while fostering a positive social and emotional learning environment. The school community united to prioritize overall fitness for both staff and students. To enhance its Physical and Health Education (PHE) curriculum, staff members collaborated with the globally renowned CrossFit organization.

With unwavering support from the administration and office staff, Peter Williams, a grade 7 teacher and certified CrossFit coach and athlete, secured an educational grant of $10,000 USD. This funding enabled the acquisition of essential equipment for implementing a comprehensive fitness program for the entire school community.

This program offers children and adults the opportunity to improve personal well-being, strengthen core fitness components, and engage in enjoyable, stress-free activities conducive to skill development. Equipment such as soft plyo boxes, tumbling mats, resistance bands, kettlebells, rowers and gym sleds have enriched the school's fitness initiatives.

Each week, classes rotate through stations that address the 10 components of physical fitness. Additionally, a group of staff members consistently meet twice a week after school to learn about different movements, fitness philosophy, building community through movement, and to work out.

As we enter the second year of this initiative, we are witnessing significant and positive momentum. Each week, classes rotate through stations that focus on the ten components of physical fitness. Students are actively engaged in meaningful and exploratory movement activities, accessible at multiple entry points. We are excited to keep the momentum flowing as we enter 2025! Go Cougars!
