Building community through generosity

By Tine Parker, Vice Principal of Healthy Futures and Maddy Phillips, Communications

Before the holidays staff from the North Vancouver School District recently hosted a heartwarming “free new items garage event” to support families in the community. With generous donations from Immigration Link and the efforts of volunteers from Carson Graham Secondary School, as well as current and former district staff, the event brought much-needed clothing, household items, and sports equipment to local families in our community.

Hundreds of items, from winter jackets to kitchen essentials, found new homes, making an immediate impact. For children, the donated sports equipment provided an opportunity to stay active and engage in community sports. Families expressed their gratitude, noting how much the items meant to them.

This initiative highlighted the power of collaboration. Immigration Link’s contributions ensured new items, while the volunteers’ dedication in organizing and running the event brought everything together. The school district’s involvement underscored the broader role schools play in fostering community well-being.

More than just providing material support, the event reinforced the values of compassion, inclusivity, and connection. It was a reminder that it truly takes a village to build a thriving community.

Thank you to everyone who contributed—your efforts made a tangible difference in the lives of many.
