Most Valuable Player (MVP)
Is awarded by coaches in consultation with the AD to players that have shown exceptional commitment to the team, have shown exceptional performance on the field of play, makes others around them better, and have been a model student athlete in the classroom and field of play.
Athlete of the Year
This is determined in consultation with the Athletic Council, AD, and coaches. These are awarded by grade and are often given to two student athletes per grade. Depending on the depth of the grade level there may be multiple winners. These student athletes have shown exceptional commitment to the team, have shown exceptional performance on the field of play, makes others around them better, have been a model student athlete, and have contributed to athletics in each season.
Most Improved Athlete
The Most Improved Athlete recognition is given to a member of a sports team who has shown significant growth and progress throughout the season. The recipient of this award has shown dedication, perseverance, skill development, and a positive attitude throughout the season. The recipient of this award serves as an inspiration to their teammates, demonstrating the value of hard work and the potential for continuous improvement in sports and in life.
sə́yəmətən Award
To be considered for the sə́yəmətən, student-athletes must demonstrate exemplary behavior both on and off the field. This includes showing respect for coaches, teammates, opponents, officials, and spectators. Additionally, candidates should display integrity, fairness, and a positive attitude, regardless of the outcome of the game. Acts of sportsmanship such as helping an opponent who is injured or congratulating the opposing team after a hard-fought match are also taken into account. Finally, nominees should exhibit leadership qualities and serve as role models for their peers, embodying the principles of being a good sport in all aspects of their athletic endeavors.
Excellence in Leadership and Community (E.L.C.)
This award is given to student athletes that are, usually, senior students who have shown a history of athletic participation as a player, team official, and game official, may have served on the athletic council, and have contributed to athletics in each season.
The year end Athletics BBQ is hosted at Seycove mid June in the cafeteria. The event date and time are reviewed at each of the coaches' meetings for each sports season of the year. This is a celebration of our student athletes' efforts throughout the year, the success of the teams in their seasons, and a big thank you to our volunteers. The Awards above are handed out at the BBQ. These awards are reviewed by the AD and the Athletic Council. This event is attended by student athletes, school staff, coaches, and sponsors only.
