CAREER EDUCATION

In Grades 8–12, Career Education helps students explore their interests, strengths, and values while planning for life after graduation. Through meaningful learning experiences, reflection, and ongoing goal setting, students develop the confidence and skills needed to navigate changing opportunities and pathways. They learn that careers are not fixed destinations, but evolving journeys shaped by growth, personal experiences, and the choices they make along the way.

Windsor Secondary School offers the Youth Work in Trades Program in partnership with SkilledTradesBC. This program is designed for students 15+ who are employed or connected to a certified tradesperson in their trade of choice. Students can earn up to 16 credits, four (4) credits per course for every 120 hours worked. These hours also count toward the apprenticeship hours required to become a journeyman in their trade.

Students' work schedule is built around the school timetable. Our school operates on a Day 1/Day 2 rotation, so students spend one day at school taking required courses and the other at their workplace.

Please visit Youth Work in Trades - Career Pathways 44 (sd44.ca) for more information.

Youth Train in Trades Programs

Youth Train in Trades is offered through the North Vancouver School District (NVSD) in partnership with SkilledTradesBC. This program allows students to attend trades training at a local secondary school, a partner post-secondary institution, or a SkilledTradesBC-certified training facility. Students learn hands-on from skilled instructors, with courses combining practical workshops and theory, all with a strong focus on safety. Tuition is covered by NVSD, but spaces are limited. Applications are required each year and are due by the end of February for programs offered the following school year. Requirements vary by trade. The program is primarily for Grade 12 students, though exceptional Grade 11 students may be considered.
