What does a carpenter do? 

  • ​Assembles and erects falsework and forms for wood, concrete and metal frame construction 
  • Installs interior and exterior finishing materials for residential, commercial and industrial projects 
  • Reads architectural drawings (blueprints) and builds while conforming to plans, specifications and building codes

  • ​Entering Grade 11 or Grade 12 
  • Good employability skills 
  • Strong interest in the industry 

​What are the benefits?

  • Post-secondary apprenticeship training without the tuition fee 
  • Up to 16 credits towards graduation 
  • Apprenticeship Technical Training Level 1 Certification 
  • Student registered with SkilledTradesBC 

​When and where is the program offered?

  • ​23 weeks, full-time at BCIT (Burnaby Campus) 
  • Classes are held in-person Monday-Friday from 7:30AM-2:00PM  
  • This program is also offered by the West Vancouver School District and runs on a linear schedule that aligns with the North Vancouver School District

Offered by West Vancouver Schools, and open to North Vancouver School District students. This hands-on program is perfect for students passionate about learning practical skills in carpentry and construction. Whether you’re exploring a future career or simply gaining a skill that lasts a lifetime, this program delivers. Learn from a Red Seal-certified instructor, earn 16 high school credits, achieve Level 1 Carpentry Training certification, and master essentials like blueprint reading and advanced tool use.
