What does an AME category do?

  • Certifies the airworthiness of airframe, piston and turbine engines, electrical/electronic systems, propellers, and rotary systems.
  • Troubleshoots aircraft structural, mechanical, or electrical systems to identify problems.
  • Repairs and overhauls aircraft structural, mechanical, or electrical systems.
  • Installs or modifies aircraft engines, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, flight control, fuel and pneumatic systems.
  • Supervises, performs, and documents routine maintenance.

What do I need to start?

  • English 12
  • General Mechanics 11, Automotive Mechanics 11, Technical Education 11, or Physics 11 (strong marks in Math and Physics will be an asset!)
  • An interest in mechanics
  • Courses in Aircraft Maintenance offered by the Air Cadets are helpful in preparing students for the program
  • Completion of BCIT Mechanical Reasoning Trades Entry Assessment

When and where is the program offered?

The program takes place at BCIT Aerospace Technology Campus (Richmond). 16 months (64 weeks), full-time and in-person.

They offer January, August, September and May intakes.
