The Eagles are undefeated

October 02, 2013

The Eagles aren't ready to land anytime soon.

Double A No. 4-ranked Carson Graham moved to a perfect 5-0 Friday following the Eagles' 35-7 win over Surrey's visiting Holy Cross Crusaders, giving the chain-gang a workout behind the workhorse efforts of running back A.J. Blackwell.
Blackwell carried 20 times for 255 yards and touchdowns of 29 and 40 yards, and also caught one of quarterback Mo Mohseni's two TD strikes on the afternoon, a 25-yard reception.
"He is the most patient running back I've had the pleasure to coach," said Eagles' head coach John Buchanan. "He allows blocks to develop in front of him, and he does such a great job of reading the field."
Stepping up in similar fashion for the winners was Max Dancs, a depth player who distinguished himself in such dramatic fashion that Buchanan was hoping his example would resonate with the rest of the squad.
On consecutive plays in the fourth quarter, Dancs registered back-to-back sacks, and followed that by blocking the ensuing punt, which he returned 20 yards. Then, on Carson Graham's first offensive snap following his special-team heroics, he caught an eightyard TD strike from Mohseni. "He did exactly what we've been telling our kids to do," said Buchanan, "to show us what they are capable of when given the opportunity. He has definitely deserved a closer look at getting more game time, and should be an example for all of our backup players."
In other highlighted Double A contests:. At West Vancouver, the No. 2-ranked John Barsby Bulldogs of Nanaimo, playing its fifth straight road game to open the 2013 season, improved to 4-1 with a 51-0 shutout of the Sentinel Spartans. Brandon Parker again led the foot brigade, rushing 16 times for 212 yards and three touchdowns as Barsby recorded its fourth shutout in five games.
. At Langley, the co-No. 2 Mission Roadrunners got dual 100-plus-yard rushing performances from running back Wayde Carpenter and quarterback Jesse Walker in a 36-12 win over the host Saints.
Walker, who rushed for touchdowns of 68 and 58 yards in the win, totalled 142 yards along the ground. He also threw for 125 yards and two touchdowns (41 and 14 yards), both to Carpenter, who rushed for 173 yards and a score, then capped the scoring with a 33-yard field goal.
. At Chilliwack, No. 5-ranked Rick Hansen topped host G.W. Graham 23-0, the Grizzlies hosting the first senior varsity high school football game in the city limits since 1982. Hansen quarterback Alex Ho passed for 230 yards and rushed for a pair of scores, while Devon DaCosta carried 20 times for 177 yards.
