Each year, Montroyal's school counsellor, trains a new group of peer leaders, from the grade 6 classes. The peer leaders assume several important leadership responsibilities, particularly with the primary students. During their training session, the peer leaders are taught basic communication and conflict resolution skills. One of the important jobs of the peer leaders is their assistance on the primary playground, at recess and lunch times, at which time they play with the younger children and help them with minor problems. Grade 6s get ready to volunteer for this year’s Peer Leadership Program, trained by Ms. Pijanowski and Mrs. Todd.
