About Our School

Sutherland strives to develop students' skills, intellect and personal growth in a supportive, respectful learning environment, and to prepare students to become responsible citizens.

Pride, Passion, Place

Our school theme of “Pride, Passion, Place" continues to resonate with students, staff and families alike. The theme reflects a commitment to fostering a sense of belonging, identity, and connection. We want every student to feel welcomed, valued, and proud to be a Sabre, while also seeing themselves as part of something larger—both within our school and in the broader community. Throughout the year, we hope you'll see this theme come to life in the many activities, clubs, events, and initiatives that make Sutherland such a vibrant and inclusive place to learn and grow.

The "Sabre Tooth Tiger"

Carved by Squamish artist Xwa lack tum (Rick Harry), This piece includes some classic elements of First Nations art including the four Coast Salish eyes, that watch over Sutherland students; three double bands around the edge, symbolizing balance of mind, body and spirit; and the four quadrants of the Circle of Courage that exists throughout North American First Nations culture representing values of generosity, belonging, mastery and independence.
