Seymour Heights Elementary
North Vancouver School District
Principal's Message

Good day families, staff, and students,

We would like to thank the Coast Salish people, specifically the Skwxwú7mesh Nation and Səlilwətaɬ Nation, whose unceded traditional territory North Vancouver School District and Seymour Heights reside on. We value the opportunity to learn, live, and share educational experiences on this land, and we are committed to deepening our understanding of Indigenous perspectives through respectful relationships and ongoing learning.

Surrounded by the beauty of the Seymour Mountain area our students and staff are reminded daily of our connection to the land. Seymour Heights Elementary is built on the unceded territory of the Skwxwú7mesh Nation and Səlilwətaɬ Nation. The valuable partnership with local First Nations provides mutual insight into learning and living on this beautiful land, and supports our goal of honouring diversity in all its forms.

At Seymour Heights, our overarching goals reflect our commitment to nurturing the whole child. We intentionally teach and value Social Emotional Learning, helping students develop self-awareness, empathy, and resilience. We honour diversity by recognizing and celebrating the unique identities, backgrounds, and experiences of all members of our school community. We also ensure that our literacy instruction is grounded in evidence-based practices, empowering students with the skills they need to become confident, capable readers and communicators.

We believe meaningful learning happens when:

  • all members of our learning community model and support our shared values of respect, responsibility, trust, and collaboration;
  • the learning environment is calm, welcoming, and inclusive; and
  • we embrace and respect each other's differences.

Seymour Heights Elementary School provides meaningful learning experiences for all students, built on a culture of individual and collective success. As a staff, we recognize and value the skills and abilities we each bring to the collective education of the children in our care. The insight and support provided to us from our parent community is essential to our success as a learning and teaching partnership. This valuable relationship is enhanced through active and effective communication.

Seymour Heights is a rich learning community. The students and staff demonstrate creativity, insight, courage, flexibility, curiosity, and an appetite to learn. A heartfelt thank you to all who support our school.
