Seymour Heights Elementary
North Vancouver School District
Principal's Message

We would like to thank the Coast Salish people, specifically the Skwxwú7mesh Nation and Səlilwətaɬ Nation, whose unceded traditional territory North Vancouver School District and Seymour Heights reside on. We value the opportunity to learn, live and share educational experiences on this unceded traditional territory.

Surrounded by the beauty of the Seymour Mountain foothills, our students and staff are reminded daily of our connection to the land. Our school is built on the unceded territory of the Skwxwú7mesh Nation and Səlilwətaɬ Nation. The valuable partnership with the local First Nations provides mutual insight into learning and living on this beautiful land.

At Seymour Heights, our overarching goal is to honour diversity. This goal encompasses the reality of what it means to be human. We have numerous similarities and differences and, at Seymour Heights, this is exemplified in the ways that students experience and respond to their learning. All staff join with students in helping them to understand how they learn best and develop strategies to assist them in becoming lifelong learners. We are committed to helping students develop strategies to support their social/emotional development and to accept the responsibility of being a contributing member of our school community.

We also believe meaningful learning happens when:

  • all members of our learning community model and support our shared values of respect, responsibility, trust, and collaboration;
  • the learning community is calm and welcoming; and
  • inclusion is practiced and we respect each other's differences.

    We believe Seymour Heights Elementary School provides meaningful learning experiences for all students, based on a culture of individual and collective success.

As a staff, we recognize and value the skills and abilities we each bring to the collective education of the children in our care. The insight and support provided to us from our parent community is essential in our success as a learning and teaching partnership. This valuable relationship is enhanced through active and effective communication.

Seymour Heights is a rich learning community. The students and staff demonstrate creativity, insight, courage, flexibility, curiosity, and an appetite to learn.  A heartfelt thank you to all who support our school.

Huy chap (Thank you all),
