Overview

Every division at Queensbury receives weekly music studies.  A variety of musical activities including the exploration  of instruments, singing, and music appreciation takes place in a rich and vibrant classroom setting.

 
Band

Overview

The primary objective of the NVSD Band & Strings program is to provide the best possible instrumental music instruction to as many students as possible in the elementary school.  The program provides school-based instrumental instruction to students in the intermediate grades.  Through a support system including NVSD, parents, students and teachers, the program has become one of the finest in British Columbia.

Students learn how to keep time, hear pitch and control musical expression.  They learn how to hold an instrument and to make the appropriate sounds.  Students also begin with the basics of musical notation and progress to reading more music as their playing stills increase.  Importantly, students develop skills to work cooperatively and democratically in a group on the ideals of shared work, empathy and mutual support.
