The Art of Conversation features artwork by over 20 Canadian artists, exploring the role of art as a platform for communication. The Art of Conversation draws conversational threads between the works in the gallery, highlighting art’s potential to facilitate and provoke dialogue. The perspectives and artistic conversations of elementary and secondary school students will be featured through original writing and art.
Public hours: Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 12 to 4 p.m.

The Elementary Band &
Strings Program is a unique instrumental music program that is
distinctive to the NVSD. The program complements the BC Ministry of
Education’s Arts Education curriculum and provides school-based
instrumental instruction to students in the intermediate grades (Grades 5
– 7 for Band and Grades 4 – 7 for Strings).

Our highly specialized academies are designed to enhance the overall student experience by providing learning environments that concentrate on a focal skill set. Students in Grades 8 to 12 work towards graduation while accelerating their knowledge and skill development in an area of interest that can form a foundation for successful post-graduation pursuits.
The following academies will be offered during the 2024/25 school year: AFK Studio Art | Basketball | Business of Gaming and Entrepreneurship | Dance | Digital Media | Digital Media Lite | Field Hockey | Hockey Skills | Robotics | Rowing | Soccer | Volleyball
The application period for academies begins on Friday, January 19, and the initial placement offer deadline is Thursday, February 29. Applications received after February 29 may be placed on a waitlist. Final academy offerings are subject to sufficient enrolment.

Starting February 1 through February 29, school
district community members are invited to provide input on budget
priorities that fall under the Operating Budget and align with the
school district’s strategic priorities. There are several ways to
provide feedback, including through an online survey, email and traditional mail. You can also participate during the Standing Committee Meetings on February 6 and March 5, 2024.

EducationPlannerBC and the NVSD invite parents, families, and student supporters to join the virtual workshop, Parents as Education and Career Coaches (PECC) on Tuesday March 5, 2024 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Learn how you can support your student in planning for their future. The information will be especially helpful for families with students in Grades 10-12. The session is engaging and informative, and includes a website tour followed by a Q&A. The session will be recorded and emailed to all registrants.
