BOTTLE DRIVE SAT.APRIL 29TH (Note Date Change)
Support your Handsworth Music Programs by donating your refundable bottles and cans to our Bottle Drive. We will be picking up donations from homes in the area bounded by Paisley Road and Grouse Mountain, Mosquito Creek and Capilano River on Saturday, April 29th. Please place your bottles and cans outside in a bag or cardboard box with our flyer (to be delivered to homes ) attached, and visible from the street (but not at the curb), by 8:00am on Saturday, April 29th and we will pick it up! If you live outside the collection area and would like to donate, please drop off your donation BEFORE 1PM ON SATURDAY, April 29th at our Bottle Drive (located in the Teachers' Parking Lot off Edgewood Road, in the Autobody Shop). Music students are expected to volunteer a minimum of 2 hours and parents are encouraged to volunteer as drivers.
We are looking for parents to volunteer with driving and sorting. We also still need people to help with lunch. All music students are expected to deliver flyers and spend a couple of hours sorting refundables on the 29th.
Bottles will be collected between about 9AM and 2PM although the clean up process doesn't wrap up until around 4pm. Any questions or to volunteer to drive, please email email@example.com

Last year Ava Safai, a Handsworth 2016 Grad, wrote an original song for the school play "The Art of Hope". She submitted her song for a competition for the USA reality television show, Dance Mom. Her song was selected, and the dancers used her song to compete in a national dance competition, which was aired on TV a few weeks ago. The dancers won the national competition with her song. Please join us on Thurs. March 2nd for our Wonderful Winds Concert featuring all 4 of the Handsworth School Concert bands as well as the Handsworth Choir. The Concert will be held at Handsworth in the large gym and will start at 7:30pm Entry is by donation.
Please join us on Mon. March 6th for our annual Strings Extravaganza featuring the Handsworth Strings ensembles as well as the Strings students from the Handsworth family of schools. The concert starts at 7pm at Centennial Theatre. Tickets are $11 for adults and $6 for children & students and are available at Centennial Theatre Box office. Hope to see you there!

Cuba Fine Arts Tour - Spring Break 2017
This is a reminder that June 16th is the due date that forms need to be in to secure a spot on this trip! Please do not include a cheque as the new fee payment system is in effect. A fee will be added to each student's account after a roster has been finalized. Payment will available by eCheck or credit card. Please go to: https://sd44.schoolcashonline.com. Finale Concert June 2016
HMPA is the organization for parents of students in the Handsworth Band and Strings programs. It operates under the umbrella of the Handsworth Parent Advisory Council (HPAC) and its aims are:
- To strengthen the Handsworth music program through education and fundraising activities
- In collaboration with the music teachers, to organize performances and tours that showcase the students' work
- To communicate with Handsworth families, staff, and the community on activities of the music program
We have a dynamic team of parent volunteers, but are always looking for more help. Parent involvement is what makes our music program so outstanding.
How can I get involved?
Greetings Handsworth Music Parents,
The fall bottle drive will take place on Saturday October 15th, 2016. The bottle drive is a big fund-raiser for the music program and it involves all music students, their parents and the community at large.
Shortly, students will be signing up (in the music room) for flyer-delivery routes. Students will be provided with flyers to be delivered to all homes in the area of the Handsworth catchment for which they have signed up. Flyers should be delivered prior to the October 15th Bottle Drive.
We will need parent volunteer drivers on the day of the bottle drive to pick up refundables and bring them to the school. And all music students are expected to spend some time volunteering for the bottle drive by delivering flyers, and/or sorting bottles in the automotive room, and/or working with volunteer drivers picking up bottles. We hope that every music student can spend 2 hours sorting the refundables at the school on the 15th.
Could you please email us (Cathy and Gord Floe) at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are willing to be a volunteer driver so that we know that we have enough drivers. I would like to have some drivers set-up for 8AM - 10AM; 10- 12 and 12 -2PM. Please let me know what slot you prefer. Volunteers also should also have gone through the volunteer driver approval process through the office at Handsworth. See attached driver form.
A complimentary lunch will be provided for all volunteers at the school.
