Carisbrooke Library Home Reading Club
Research has shown that reading is a skill that is critical to a child's success both in and out of school. At Carisbrooke, children will be immersed in reading. They will have opportunities to read, hear, tell and write stories, songs and poems. They will have opportunities to use their reading skills throughout the school.
In conjunction with your child's classroom reading program, the Carisbrooke Library will again be running a voluntary Home Reading Club. This year, the theme is You Never Know Where a Book Might Take You. Students will keep track of how many days they read during the school year.
To participate, children are asked to read or be read to for a minimum of fifteen minutes each day. This time does not need to be separate from any reading done for classroom assignments. Books can come from any source and be in any language. Parents are asked to date and initial the Carisbrooke Reading Club form each day your child reads. Once your child has read for 25 days, return the form and your child will receive a new form for the next 25 days. Each month I will post student progress on the Library bulletin board.
I would love to post photos of students reading, anywhere, anytime. If you have a photo of your child that you would like to have put on display, please send it in with your child and I will add the photo to the bulletin board.
If you have any questions, please stop by the Library. Happy reading!
