David Blackwood

​David Blackwood was born in 1941 in Wesleyville, Newfoundland to a seafaring community, which influenced much of his work throughout the course of his life. Blackwood established his first gallery in 1956, and was offered a scholarship to attend the Ontario School of Art.  Blackwood then went on to receive his Masters of Arts from Trinity College School. Blackwood's most prominent work includes a series of fifty etchings under the title of The Lost Party. The etchings chronicle the story of a provincial sealing disaster in 1914. Blackwood was awarded the Order of Canada in 1993 in recognition of his work in preserving Canadian culture and heritage through his​ art.
