Douglas Coupland

​Douglas Coupland was born in 1961 in West Germany, though his family soon relocated to West Vancouver in 1965. Coupland initially pursued sciences at the McGill University, only to switch career paths and began his studies of the arts at Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver. ​Following his graduation in 1984, he went on to study at the European Design Institute in Milan, Italy and the Hokkaido College of Art and Design in Sapporo, Japan. Coupland is a multifaceted artist, known not only for his works of visual art but also his outstanding career as a writer. Coupland is an Officer of the Order of Canada and has received numerous honorary degrees from various universities across Canada. His sculpture Digital Orca (2009) is currently displayed in Vancouver, British Columbia. ​​​
