Charles Van Sandwyk

At a young age, Charles Van Sandwyk demonstrated a wide variety of artistic talent. Following his family's emigration from South Africa, Van Sandwyk made an income performing as a magician and unicyclist throughout his high school years. He developed a talent for calligraphy, which later influenced his style of illustration. At 20, he travelled to Fiji, where he developed a deep connection to the Pacific and the art of storytelling found amongst Fijian culture. Van Sandwyk has written and illustrated a number of books and publications. Some of his works have been held in the National Library of Canada.
