Betty Goodwin

Betty Goodwin was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1923. She was the only child of Romanian immigrants, and from a young age showed interest in painting and drawing. After high school, Goodwin studied  design at the Valentine's Commercial School of Art in Montreal, and printmaking with Yves Gaucher at St. George Williams University. S​he went on to expand her work to different mediums including collage, sculpture, printmaking, and etchings among others. Goodwin was drawn towards portraying the fragility and beauty of life in the context of a tumultuous world. Goodwin has been awarded honorary doctorates from universities across Canada and an Officer of the Order of Canada as of 2003, among her many accomplishments. β€‹
