Letter to Capilano Kindergarten Families Aug 28 2020

August 28, 2020

Dear Kindergarten Families

Welcome to Kindergarten!

Teachers and staff members in all of our North Vancouver School District Elementary Schools are excited to meet you and your children as we start the school year. COVID-19 has necessitated a slight delay in the start of school this year to accommodate time for staff members to receive in-service on safety practices, to establish schedules and routines to minimize student and staff contact in schools, and to plan and prepare to welcome students back.

As always, elementary students will be placed into classrooms with a classroom teacher. This year, we will not be organizing buddy classes, or having classes join together indoors. Any staff member entering the classroom or interacting with students who is not a member of that class will need to practice physical distancing and will wear a non-medical mask.  Health and safety are our priorities as we begin the school year.

In the spring you will have received a letter with the gradual entry schedule for your child. That schedule will no longer be accurate. Kindergarten students will begin their school year on either Friday, September 11th or Monday, September 14th depending on which group of students they have been placed in. Their gradual entry will occur within their class placement with their assigned teacher or teachers. Please expect communication from us at Capilano on September 4th with your Kindergarten student’s revised gradual entry schedule.

With the advisement of BCCDC and the Provincial Health Office, we are regrettably not able to invite parents into our school or classrooms. Instead, parents are asked to send a washable comfort item with their child, if it will be of benefit to them. Children will be asked not to share that item with other children.

The health and safety of our students is our utmost priority as we begin the new school year. We look forward to getting to know each and every one of you as your children embark on their learning journey with us and mark a very unique Kindergarten entry milestone.

Sincerely,

Doug Beveridge
