Taking place from May 31 to June 6, 2026, this week is a time to take action towards building more inclusive and equitable communities where everyone can fully participate and thrive. As part of this year's National Accessibility Week, Carson Graham Secondary is highlighting recent efforts to create more accessible, welcoming, and inclusive school spaces. <a href="/District/LearnShareGrow/default.aspx#/view/891">Learn about the key accessibility considerations</a> in the latest Learn, Share and Grow blog post. </p><p><strong>Annual </strong><strong><em>Battle of the Books</em></strong><strong> brings readers together</strong><br><strong> </strong>On May 29, the 5th floor of the Education Services Centre was buzzing with excitement as elementary students gathered for the 4th annual&#160;Battle of the Books. This much anticipated event brought together students, families, and teacher-librarians from across the school&#160;district to celebrate a shared love of reading. Registration is open until Friday, June 5 at 3 p.m. Enrolled students should engage with their course(s) before summer break by completing the activation assignments before June 19. Students who are active in their course(s) will have one calendar year to complete it. Students can also choose to engage in their NVOL course(s) entirely online or in a blended model of online and in-person interactions at our NVOL Centre.</p><p>Visit the NVOL website to see full <a href="/school/onlinelearning/Courses/">course offerings</a> for Grades 8–12 in both English and French. Spend three days exploring forests, paddling canoes, learning together, creating together, and sharing unforgettable experiences surrounded by mountains, rivers, and old-growth&#160;forest.</p><p>Designed for families of all&#160;ages&#160;and sizes, the experience combines outdoor adventure,&#160;Indigenous&#160;cultural learning, and relaxed camp-style fun in a welcoming community atmosphere.&#160;Whether your family loves active adventures, creative activities, quiet nature walks, or evenings around the campfire, there will be something for&#160;everyone. Further details about the programming and to register are available on <a href="https&#58;//cheakamuscentre.ca/education/family-camp">Cheakamus Centre's website</a>. </p><p><strong>Academies </strong><strong>—</strong><strong> Late application period open</strong><br><strong> </strong>NVSD academies are designed to enhance the overall student experience by providing learning environments that concentrate on a focal skill set. The following academies will be offered during the 2026-27&#160;school year&#58;&#160;Artists for Kids&#160;Studio Art, Basketball, Dance, Digital Media, Digital Media Lite, Field Hockey, Hockey Skills, Rowing, Soccer and Volleyball.&#160;<br>The first-round application period closed on February 28. Applications received after&#160;March 1&#160;may be placed on a waitlist. Final academy offerings are subject to sufficient enrolment. Our unique instrumental music program complements the Arts Education curriculum and provides school-based instrumental instruction in a supportive and fun learning environment. Late registration for the 2026-27 school year is open until Tuesday, September 29. Harbour Swimming Deck will be located off Waterfront Park and will provide free, public swimming access to Burrard Inlet.
