YELL – Entrepreneurship 12

Are you interested in Business? Thinking of becoming an Entrepreneur? YELL is Canada's first high school Entrepreneurship course designed to provide youth with practical tools and experiences they need to succeed in the real world.

YELL is a full-year program designed for students in Grades 11-12. Students will receive four credits towards high school graduation, and those in good standing will also be eligible to receive credit from partnered post-secondary institutions.

The YELL program begins with students learning all the core concepts of lean entrepreneurship. YELL teachers cover topics including: design thinking, marketing, financial projections, the Business Model Canvas, and more! A diverse selection of inspiring entrepreneurs and business leaders also visit classes throughout the first semester to share stories and advice to the class of budding innovators.

Later in the program, YELL students form groups and create a business venture together. Students learn to problem solve and communicate effectively with their team while working with a business mentor who acts as their guide and a liaison between the team and the broader entrepreneurship community.

To wrap up the program, YELL classes across the province come together at the annual Venture Challenge. Student teams compete by presenting their business venture to a panel of judges made up of community members, entrepreneurs, and investors. Think of the Venture Challenge as a Dragon’s Den type of experience!

To learn more about YELL students can attend the district’s Secondary Enhanced Programs & Academies Night taking place on Wednesday, January 31, 6 to 8 p.m., on the 5th Floor, Education Services Centre (2121 Lonsdale Avenue, North Vancouver).

Also look out for a Virtual Information Night!
