Kilometre Club
Spring program

APRIL 2025
This year, we are trying something a bit different for Kilometer Club; instead of running/walking before school, we will be getting together as a school on Tuesdays at 1:00 pm and Thursdays at 9:00 am to get our kilometers in, cheer each other on, and listen to some good tunes.

This challenge has three parts:

1. As a school, we have a goal of running 7,821 kilometers in four weeks, roughly the same distance from BC to Labrador and Newfoundland via the Trans-Canada Highway.  Each class will count their kms at the end of each week, and we will move a very special symbol (created by one of our very talented Grade 7 students) along the map of Canada to represent how far we've gone. We will be sure to update you on our journey!

2. In their house teams, students were assigned a province (or two) to learn about and share information on as we run/walk through that area. We will be inviting students to share what they learned on our bulletin board in the intermediate wing of the school (come on by to check it out!), as well as on the announcements. At the end of the four weeks, we will get the school back together in their house teams to celebrate both the accomplishments of each team and the school as a whole.

3. Individually, students (and staff!) set a goal of how many kilometers they want to run over the next 4 weeks. There are four milestones that we will be celebrating (10 km, 25 km, 50 km, and 100 km), and students will receive a ribbon as they meet each one. They will be encouraged to track kilometers achieved during km club, track practices (for intermediate students), as well as any running or walking they do outside of school time, including walking to school (biking will not count).

We are very excited for this opportunity to bring our school together, and we look forward to celebrating our accomplishments!
