ACADEMIC AWARDS

EAGLE AWARD OF EXCELLENCE (12)

Awarded to grade 12 students who have earned at least one Subject Certificate or one Curricular Award every year for 5 years at high school.

 *Certificate Awarded at Recognition Ceremony (first award given June 2020)

SCHOLAR OF THE YEAR AWARDS (8-12)

Scholar(s) of the Year are recognized for their outstanding achievement and commitment to learning. These top student(s) from each grade are recognized for their achievement, considering a full load of courses, taken during the year, in addition to their leadership qualities and positive contributions to the learning environment.

SUBJECT CERTIFICATES (8-12)

Awarded to students who have had outstanding achievement in the subject and have demonstrated a strong commitment to the subject. Chosen by teachers currently teaching the course.  For the 2020-21 School Year, Curricular award winners are eligible to receive Subject Certificates.

CURRICULAR AWARDS (8-12)

Awarded to the TOP students at each year from each curricular area. These students have demonstrated outstanding achievement and a strong commitment to the curricular area as chosen by department members.  A maximum of 3 students per department at each grade level may be awarded.

SERVICE & CITIZENSHIP AWARDS

SPIRIT OF THE EAGLE – Top Citizenship (8-12)

Awarded at each grade level to students who demonstrate outstanding effort and continued commitment to improving the school and community through volunteer work and active service. These students uphold the values of honesty, integrity, courteousness and respect; they give freely of their time and resources, and exhibit genuine interest in service learning or volunteerism.  Awards are based upon number of hours and a variety of activities.  Determined by awards committee in consultation with staff.

SERVICE AWARDS

Our junior service awards recognize students in grades 8 through 10 for their volunteer service to the community.  These students are community minded responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to Carson Graham.   Students may accumulate hours across the three junior years.  Hours must be recorded in Managebac by the end of May to be considered for that year.  Volunteer work completed in the summers between grades 8 and 9, and between grades 9 and 10 will be considered.  The Awards Committee determines recipients.

Junior Bronze: Recognizes students who have volunteered 30 hours by May of grade 8, 50 hours by May of grade 9, or 100 hours by May of grade 10.  

Junior Silver: Recognizes students who have volunteered 60 hours by May of grade 8, 100 hours by May of grade 9, or 200 hours by May of grade 10.

Junior Gold: Recognizes students who have volunteered 90 hours by May of grade 8, 150 hours by May of grade 9, or 300 hours by May of grade 10.

Our senior service awards recognize students in grades 11 through 12 for their volunteer service to the community.  These students are community minded responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to Carson Graham.   Students may accumulate hours across the two years.  Hours must be recorded in Managebac by the end of May to be considered for that year. Any service hours accumulated since June of the grade 10 year may be included.

Senior Bronze: Recognizes students who have volunteered 50 hours by May of grade 11 and 100 hours by May of grade 12.

Senior Silver: Recognizes students who have volunteered 100 hours by May of grade 11 and 200 hours by May of grade 12.

Senior Gold: Recognizes students who have volunteered 200 hours by May of grade 11 and 400 hours by May of grade 12.

*Gold level awards certificates awarded at Recognition Ceremony.  Bronze and Silver certificates awarded via mail.


IB AWARDS

IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME HONOUR AWARD (12)

Awarded to the Grade 12 IB Diploma candidate who most embodies the attributes of the IB Learner Profile. It is awarded to the student whose excellence has been demonstrated across both core and academic requirements of the IB Diploma Programme.

            *Certificate Awarded at Graduation Ceremony & Acknowledged at Recognition Ceremony

IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD (12)

Awarded to the IB Diploma student who achieves Carson Graham Secondary School's highest overall diploma score in his or her graduating class. This award will be acknowledged at the Awards Ceremony of the subsequent school year as results are released in July.

IB MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAMME HONOUR AWARD (GRADE 10)

Awarded to a grade 10 student who most embodies the attributes of the IB Learner Profile. It is awarded to a student who is well rounded, academically exceptional, and has participated in a variety of Community and Service activities. This student embodies the ethos of the Personal Project.

IB MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAMME CERTIFICATE (10)

Certificates are awarded to grade 10 Middle Years Programme students who have successfully completed their Personal Projects, their community and service hours, and have achieved the required points in their MYP courses as outlined here.

OUTSTANDING STUDENT AWARDS

OUTSTANDING INTERNATIONAL STUDENT (12)

Awarded to a grade 12 international student who takes a full course load and who is engaged and involved in the school and the broader community. In addition, the recipient must be achieving his or her academic potential.

Awarded to a grade 12 Indigenous Student who is taking a full course load and who embodies Indigenous pride in the school and in the broader community. This student demonstrates significant leadership and is achieving his or her academic potential.

PRINCIPAL'S AWARD OF EXCELLENCE (12)

Each year the Principal selects outstanding Grade 12 students who exemplify the true spirit of Carson Graham Secondary. These students have achieved their academic potential and have participated actively and positively both in curricular and co-curricular areas.

VICE PRINCIPALS' AWARD (12)

Each year the Vice Principals select a member(s) of the graduating class who has faced considerable adversity and has persevered or who has made the greatest turn around in his or her academic profile and in his or her approach to school since grade eight.

ATHLETIC AWARDS

ATHLETIC COMMITMENT AWARDS 

Junior: Awarded to athletes when the athlete has reached a milestone of 25 points for Certificate, 50 points for Junior Block, and 75 points for Junior Plaque.  Points are awarded by coaches at a maximum of 10 points per major sport and 5 points per minor sport collectively throughout grades 8 - 10 at Carson Graham.

Senior: Awarded to athletes when the athlete has reached a milestone of 25 points for Senior Block, 50 points for Senior Plaque.  Points are awarded by coaches at a maximum of 10 points per major sport and 5 points per minor sport collectively throughout grades 11 and 12 at Carson Graham.

SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD (12)

The Sportsmanship award winner represents a Grade 12 student athlete who has made a positive contribution to the Carson Graham Athletics program, demonstrates a supportive and encouraging attitude, and is respected by their peers and by the faculty.

ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARDS (8-12)

Athlete of the Year awards (Male & Female) are determined by the Athletic Council. Athletes receive points for each school sport they play.  Athletes in each grade with the highest total points for the year are considered. Athletes of the Year candidates must have participated on three or more teams or were standouts on two teams, demonstrated both a high level of skill and significant leadership, and are respected by their peers and by the faculty.

SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARDS (10 & 12)

Scholar Athlete of the Year awards (MALE & FEMALE) are determined by the Athletic Council. Athletes receive points for each school sport they play.  Aathletes in each grade with the highest total point for the year are considered. Scholar Athletes of the Year candidates are chosen based on the following criteria.  They demonstrate a balance between their academic and athletic endeavors by participating on two or more teams while maintaining a high academic average, demonstrate both a high level of skill in athletics and significant leadership in the school community, and are respected by their peers and by the faculty.

ARTS AWARDS

OUTSTANDING ARTIST AWARDS (12)

Awarded to a grade 12 student who has excelled in two areas of the arts.  Special consideration will be given to students who demonstrate a superior understanding and passion.  The award recipient must be well-rounded, have demonstrated citizenship, and have a positive attitude.

OUTSTANDING JUNIOR & OUTSTANDING SENIOR MUSICIAN

This award is given to a student who is in grade 9 or 10 and 12 respectively.  In exceptional circumstances, when there is more than one eligible candidate, this may be awarded to a maximum of three students at each level. The recipient(s) has been involved in the music department for a minimum of two years, has demonstrated above average musicianship skills, has demonstrated excellent leadership skills, and has exemplified the definition of a team player in the music department. Special consideration is given to student(s) who are in both band and choir.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT AWARD FOR MUSICIANSHIP & CITIZENSHIP (12)

This award is given to a grade 12 student who has contributed significantly to the music department in his or her years in music at Carson Graham. Excellent musicianship skills are a requirement but, leadership in all facets of the music department, a willingness to assist others and, when applicable, contributing to successful music tours are all considered. Special consideration is given to the student(s) who are in both band and choir.

OUTSTANDING BAND AWARD

Awarded to a student who is enrolled in both Concert Band and Jazz Band. This student has demonstrated an aptitude and a willingness to learn to play a variety of styles of jazz, a willingness to develop his or her improvisational skills, and who provides encouragement to others in the development of their improvisational skills.
