École Boundary Elementary Code of Conduct

At École Boundary Elementary, we provide a safe practice environment—one that is welcoming, inclusive, and caring—where children can grow, acquiring the knowledge and skills to maximize their potential in intellectual, social, and physical development. When you enter École Boundary Elementary, we want you to feel welcomed and valued.

At École Boundary Elementary, we believe:

  • Everyone matters and they will feel welcome and included.

  • Every child deserves the opportunity to succeed.

  • Teaching self-awareness and self-management is important for students, staff, and parents.

  • Collaboration with parents and community partners is key.

At École Boundary Elementary, we aim to maintain a safe, caring, accessible, and healthy learning environment. As a school community, we are committed to an equitable, diverse, and inclusive school environment. Considerations regarding the application of our Code of Conduct apply to those who may not be able to adhere to the Code of Conduct due to having a disability of an intellectual, physical, sensory, emotional, or behavioral nature. Appropriate application, which seeks to be consistent and equitable, may in some cases vary from student to student according to the needs of the student, the needs of the school or the situation.

École Boundary Elementary’s Code of Conduct was established to maintain a safe, caring, inclusive and healthy learning environment. It is the shared responsibility of students, staff, parents/guardians, and the broader community, to demonstrate positive conduct while attending any school or district related activity, at any location. At Boundary Elementary, our goal is to nurture all students to be BOLD. We encourage everyone to take chances, embrace new learning experiences, and grow continuously. Our code of conduct, BOLD, guides us to:

B - Be Kind

  • Be kind to yourself, others, and the environment.

  • Be a good friend. Choose actions or words that are kind and considerate, uplifting yourself and supporting others. Be accountable for how you treat those around you.

  • Take care of our space and the environment.

O - Open Minded

  • Open your mind with equity, empathy, and gratitude.

  • Value perspectives and foster a sense of community and belonging. Listen to others and show respect for their ideas and feelings.

  • Ask for help when needed and maintain a growth mindset.

L - Lead by Example

  • Support learning and attendance.

  • Show responsibility and respect for the school community (people, places and things)

D - Do the Work

  • Develop individually, as a community and continuously.

  • Take responsibility, set goals, and learn from experiences.

All members of the Boundary community are expected to:
  • Refrain from in-person or digital communication or behaviours that is disrupting the learning and working environment of others.

  • Adhere to the BC Human Rights Code, avoiding any discriminatory conduct based on Indigenous identity, race, color, ancestry, place of origin, religion, marital status, family status, physical or mental disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or age.

  • Refrain from engaging in unsafe or illegal activities, including the possession, use, or distribution of illegal or restricted substances, or the possession of weapons or replicas.

  • Wear clothing that does not promote or symbolize illegal substances or activities, hate, discrimination, profanity, or violence.

  • Leave personal digital devices (PDD) at home. If it is necessary to bring a PDD to school, it should remain in their bag/backpack during school hours. Allowances may be made by staff for instructional purposes, digital literacy, appropriate use based on age and developmental stage, accommodations within a student’s Individualized Education Plan, accessibility, medical and health needs, and/or equitable support for learning outcomes.

Every effort will be made to support individuals and determine the root causes of behavior. If the safety or educational program of others is compromised, or if there is an ongoing failure to meet the expectations of the Code of Conduct, a range of consequences will follow. Factors such as the severity and frequency of the concerning behavior(s), as well as the age, maturity, and ability of the person(s) involved, will be considered. As people mature, there is an expectation of increased responsibility and self-discipline; therefore, progressively increasing consequences for concerning behavior may apply.

Whenever possible, incidents will be resolved through discussion, community service, restorative processes, referral to counseling and/or support services, mediation, and restitution. However, consequences may also include loss of privileges, detention, suspension from school, and/or collaboration with community partners. Confidentiality will be maintained, but school officials may have a responsibility to inform other parties of serious breaches of the Code of Conduct (e.g., school district officials, law enforcement, and/or other agencies).

The school will take all reasonable steps to prevent any form of retaliation against a student or staff member who has brought forward a complaint of a breach of the Code of Conduct.

Considerations apply to those who may not be able to adhere to the Code of Conduct due to having a disability of an intellectual, physical, sensory, emotional, or behavioral nature.

All members of the Boundary community have the right to be treated fairly and consistently and should know and understand this code of conduct
