Have your say on report cards

January 30, 2017

The Ministry of Education is looking for input from parents to guide the development of the reporting approach for students in kindergarten to Grade 9 so parents have a better understanding of their child’s progress.

The Engagement Process

This 2016/2017 school year, the Ministry of Education is gathering input from parents; there are two ways to participate:

    • By attending one of the community open houses that are happening in 11 locations around the province. These sessions are drop-in between 5-7 p.m. with a one hour facilitated workshop from 7-8 p.m.; or
    • By completing a parent feedback form either online or by printing a hard copy that can be completed and returned by mail.

The parent feedback form will be open for response from October 4, 2016 until February 28, 2017 at 4 p.m. All of the input that is submitted will be summarized into an Engagement Summary Report, which will be posted on this site in June 2017 and considered by the Ministry and school district leaders as they develop potential models for improved reports. The public engagement feedback, along with input from school district engagements, research by the Ministry and feedback from experts and teachers, will all be considered as the provincial student reporting approach is finalized. There will be opportunities for parents to give input on progress reporting for grades 10-12 in the future.
