The first-ever NVSD basketball academy scholarships were
awarded in June to a graduating trio who showed dedication and leadership
during the program.
Jill Bowering, Emma Bradshaw and Chelsea Bradshaw joined
the academy in Grade 8 and always turned up to the court with a smile on their
faces, attests academy director Vern Porter.
“They worked hard, had fun and got better every day,”
says Porter. “They were always positive and gave energy to the others and the
coaches.”
The three friends helped Seycove reach the quarterfinals
of the senior girls AA provincial basketball championship this past season.
Jill, Emma and Chelsea were also great leaders in the academy, serving as role
models for the younger players.
“We were so impressed with them that we decided to award
each one of them with a $500 North Vancouver Basketball Academy scholarship,” says Porter. “It
is the first time in six years that we have done this.”
The friends bonded by basketball won’t be far apart in the
fall – they all have plans to attend Trinity Western University.
