About Music Transition

Summer Learning Music Transition is designed for students transitioning from grade 7 into grade 8 in September.  This course will work on a number of musical elements such as western music notation, rhythmic patterns, and music appreciation.  This course will also introduce some of the vocal, percussive instruments (drums and mallets), wind instruments, and string instruments expected in secondary school.

Students will work individually, as well as in groups, to develop their musical skills in listening, reading, and performing using a variety of music and instruments such as: vocal, body percussion, drums and keyboard percussion, clarinet or trumpet, and guitar, just to name a few.  Lastly, students will be introduced to a variety of musical concepts and tools which will provide an opportunity to gain confidence in their performance for when they enter secondary school music programs.

This course is suitable for students who will be entering Grade 8 at any secondary school program in September. Prior musical experience is not required.
