Numeracy 8/9 is designed for students who meet the following criteria:
have taken Mathematics 8 or 9, but have achieved less than 60%
require development of core skills and foundational knowledge
require additional teacher support and direct instruction in developing understanding, foundational skills, and knowledge
Grade 8 students register for Mathematics 8 and Grade 9 students register for Mathematics 9
Numeracy 8/9 focuses on curricular and core competencies using foundational mathematics content. Numeracy 8/9 is NOT a review of Mathematics 8 or 9 and NOT a preview course.
The Numeracy 8/9 course is personalized, as it is tailored to students' individual needs, target students' gaps in learning, and provides extra support in developing reflective and actively engaged learners. Numeracy students are assessed on the first day of class, then grouped by skill level.
A student's final report card will indicate "Meeting Expectations" or "Not Yet Meeting Expectations".
