Literacy is designed for students who meet the following criteria:
have taken English Language Arts 8 or 9, but have achieved less than 60%
have an incomplete bank of core skills and foundational knowledge
require additional teacher support and direct instruction in developing foundational skills and knowledge
Literacy focuses on curricular and core competencies. Literacy is NOT a review of English 8 or 9 and NOT a preview course. (Please note, ELL students are better placed in either ELL Transition or our ELL course.)
The Literacy course is personalized, as it is tailored to students' individual needs, target students' gaps in learning, and provides extra support in developing reflective and actively engaged learners.
A student's final report card will indicate "Meeting Expectations" or "Not Yet Meeting Expectations".
All Foundations classes are scheduled at Carson Graham Secondary School, 2145 Jones Avenue, North Vancouver, BC.
