Foundations Courses (Review and Completion)

For students currently in Grade 8 or 9

Summer Learning offers two Foundations courses (Review and Completion) : Literacy 8/9 and Numeracy 8/9. These Foundations courses are designed for students who have already taken the course, have an incomplete bank of core skills in either numeracy or literacy and need to enhance their core skills. Foundations courses are designed for students who have taken the course previously, have achieved under 60% and need to build their understanding of the key concepts: these courses are NOT preview courses and they are NOT designed for ELL students. Foundations courses focus on big ideas and the concepts and skills students need success in to move ahead in literacy or numeracy. These courses are NOT a review of grade level course content.

Students who register for Math 8 or 9 (Numeracy), or English 8 or 9 (Literacy) will be assessed on the first day of class, then regrouped - based upon skill levels, thus providing the opportunity for personalized learning. The courses target student gaps in learning and provide support for students as demonstrated through the assessments.

Students will be given a final grade of "Meeting Expectations" or "Not Yet Meeting Expectations" for the course, depending on learning targets and goals.
