The Social Justice Squad was formed after a group of
students and staff was invited to attend a WE DAY celebration. Students are
invited to attend whenever they are available or inspired to help with any
given project. Seeing the need to make a change both globally and locally the
group has chosen ways that they can make a difference. Locally they have been
responsible for serving chili and
handing out clothing to residents of the Downtown Eastside. Plans are in the
works for another trip there. The S.J.S. have had several bake sales with
proceeds going to Animals in Need and The Ride to Conquer Cancer. A discussion
on Anti-Bullying was hosted by the Squad and they are always open to new ideas
and members. Globally they have collected pennies to provide clean water for 3rd
world countries, and sent 27 handmade sock monkeys to Haiti to help with a
medical mission. More monkeys are being made and they will go to Russia at the
end of the school year. If you are interested in joining this class, speak with your advisor teacher!
