Dear Parents/Guardians and Staff in the Handsworth Family of Schools:

Re: Handsworth Secondary School Capital Project Update

We are pleased to advise that the architectural firm KMBR Architects Planners Inc. has been selected to design the new Handsworth Secondary School. KMBR has a long history of designing large scale secondary schools in the province. Recent projects have included Argyle Secondary School (North Vancouver School District), Salish Secondary School (Surrey School District) and New Westminster Secondary School (New Westminster School District).

The initial scope of project work has commenced and the Capital Project Steering Committee for Handsworth has been formed. The Capital Project Steering Committee is comprised of parents, students, teachers, CUPE staff, Administrators, District of North Vancouver staff and North Vancouver Board of Education representatives. This committee will provide feedback/suggestions/comments through Handsworth Principal Rupi Samra-Gynane for consideration by the Core Committee which makes final decisions about design and budget.

The project has the following target dates:

Parents and Guardians of the Handsworth Family of Schools are invited to meet in the Library Learning Commons with HPAC Chair Carolyn Warner, Handsworth Principal Rupi Samra-Gynane and Assistant Superintendent Chris Atkinson on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 5:00pm to discuss building a new school that best reflects the needs and priorities of our students and broader community. Any parents interested in fundraising to acquire new equipment and furnishings or build specialized outdoor areas are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served afterwards, followed by the HPAC meeting at 7:00pm.
