The
UBC Humanitarian Organization for Providing Empowerment, an on-campus group
under the Alma Mater Society, will be hosting a FREE conference for high school
students grades 8-12. As mental wellness is an important topic on campus, our
conference will focus on mental wellness and media literacy and will feature
keynote speakers such as Carol Todd, (mother of Amanda Todd), MLA Jane
Thornthwaite, and Anita Roberts (founder of safeteen.ca). On
top of discussion about mental wellness we will also be providing two additional
workshop options. One to graduating students in grade 12 to receive a free
campus tour and guidelines on how to construct their upcoming first year course
schedules as well as a workshop for grade 11 students on how to prepare for
university applications in their twelfth grade year. These will be run by UBC
Major Entrance Scholarship Winners, and Schulich Scholarship Awardees. There
will also be university students who are trained as Peer Academic Coaches
available for consultation.
We
are emailing you to invite your students to take part in this exciting
opportunity as many of them have taken part in our previous Mentorship program
with great success!
